All I knew about aviation in the First World War was that my father, known as "Chick" Winfree, never spoke much about his flying experiences - I now know why - he did not like remembering about friends that he lost, and the circumstances of their passing.
One Sunday (I was 10 years old) we drove to Adams Field in Little Rock, Arkansas to see the airplanes come in and go out.
He introduced me to Major James Case, an old friend, who owned an Ercoupe. Major Case asked me if I wanted to go flying. I said "yes", and away we went.
When we returned, Major Case said to my father "your son is a natural pilot - it's like he was born in an airplane"
I soloed a Bonanza and a Piper Apache on my 16th birthday. United Press International reported that I was the" youngest multi engine pilot in the United States".
As things progressed in time I became a part of my fathers insurance business.
As of August,2011 I have been a pilot for 60 years.
My ratings are: Commercial, Asel, Mel, Instrument, Rotorcraft/Helicopter with over 15,000 hrs. PIC in over 250 types of aircraft, all in General Aviation.
